What areas of law do Scherman and Associates specialize in?
We are litigators and commercial attorneys first and foremost. If there is a dispute relating to any commercial matter, or agreements need to be drawn up – we are on hand to assist. We have also assisted our clients in matters related to labour matters and family law disputes such as divorces, cross border child abduction cases, maintenance matters, protection orders and so on.
If there is an international aspect to the litigation – we come into our own. We have represented clients in many cross-border disputes – particularly clients based in the Asia Pacific region.

Very few, if any, have the international experience and perspective of our attorneys. Our founder spent many years in the legal arena in Hong Kong and Japan and has dealt with legal matters from all parts of the globe.
What types of clients does Scherman and Associates typically represent?
Individuals and privately owned businesses (mostly). We do not act for Banks or Insurance companies – we act against them.

We have both the experience – and the network to assist in cross border or matters that arise outside of South Africa

Communication is key. No client should ever have to wonder what is happening with their matter. We make it our goal to keep our clients abreast of developments at all times.
What is the process for scheduling a consultation with Scherman and Associates?
We usually arrange an obligation free consultation telephonically, meet to discuss, and then follow that meeting up with a written summary of the discussion and fee estimate. Once that has happened the client either engages us by signing our mandate and paying a retainer (deposit) – or elects not to proceed.
Does Scherman and Associates offer services in languages other than English?
Yes – we are proficient in English, Afrikaans and Japanese.

Our Firm has unique views on these issues. By providing clients with the correct legal advice – without trying to tailor that advice to “please our clients at all costs”. Our attorneys support and assist them throughout the process – but on the understanding that we will never compromise our principles. Our reputation and integrity in dealing with our clients and acting as officers of the court is very important to us.
Does Scherman & Associates also offer trust and trustee services?
Yes, we regularly form trusts for our clients, assist them with the administration and independent trustee services and where necessary advise on litigation aspects of same.
